It’s Easy Being Green
Smoothies are not supposed to replace a meal, but there are those days when I am so busy I just don’t have time to make a meal. This is a great alternative to grabbing a sugary snack that won’t fill you up with anything good and will make you hungrier anyway.
Mary Hollander, who teaches a nutrition class for chemo patients in the San Diego area, made this smoothie in class one day and shared the recipe with us. What a treat that was! Thank you again Mary – you rock!!
MARY’S POWER SMOOTHIE
1 apple, cored
1 orange, peel and seeds removed
1 date, seed removed
1 frozen banana, peeled, or you can use frozen blueberries or strawberries, stems removed
1 carrot, I don’t bother to peel it if it’s organic
2 large leafy green leaves (kale, Swiss chard)
½ cup baby spinach
1 c. water
Rinse all vegetables and fruits and prepare as noted. Place all ingredients in a blender or Magic Bullet and process until smooth.
I always use organic produce when available. Paying particular attention to the Dirty Dozen.
Do you have a smoothie recipe you love – please share!!
