Cindy’s Hot Cranberry-Apple Cider
It’s here!! Autumn! My favorite time of the year. The summer heat is whisked away by the cooler breezes of Fall; sweaters come out to play, pumpkins sprinkle the countryside, and freshly baked treats begin to appear on every kitchen counter. And don’t forget the cider! I see a big pot of hot cider in my not to distant future!
My friend Cindy Tortomasi shared this cider recipe with me years ago and it has been my go-to when I crave cider’s sweet, golden goodness ever since. The little ‘trick’ of adding cranberry juice makes this cider an especially tasty treat.
Cindy’s Hot Cranberry-Apple Cider
1 ½ quarts Cranberry juice
2 quarts Apple juice
¼ cup Brown sugar
4 Cinnamon sticks
½ t Cloves, whole
Cheesecloth
Wrap the cinnamon and cloves in a small piece of cheesecloth tying it with string to form a pouch. Pour the apple and cranberry juices in large soup pot, stir in the brown sugar and add the spice bag.
Bring the cider to a boil over medium heat; immediately lower the heat and let the cider simmer for 2 hours. Remove the spice bag and serve.
